A new accessory, endoscopic cuff, improves colonoscopic access for complex polyp resection and scar assessment in the sigmoid colon.
Zacharias P. Tsiamoulos, MD, Brian P. Saunders, MD, FRCP Gastrointestinal endoscopy.2012 76; (6): 1242-45
ENDOCUFF™ assisted colonoscopy was used in patients who had been referred for endoscopic resection of large flat/sessile sigmoid colon polyps or for surveillance of post polypectomy scars in the sigmoid colon where conventional methods to achieve stable access and visualization had been unsuccessful. The ENDOCUFF™ was used in five patients to assist EMR, and seven patients for post-EMR scar surveillance All sessile/flat polyps (mean size 29 mm) or post-EMR scar sites (mean size 15 mm) were located at acute bends in the sigmoid colon. The ENDOCUFF™ improved access by flattening/depressing colon folds close to the lesion/scar. The entire polyp/scar surface was revealed, facilitating complete polyp excision and meticulous scar assessment. There were no immediate or delayed adverse events.
Conclusion: The ENDOCUFF™ appears to be a safe and easily used accessory to facilitate colonoscopic access for complex polypectomy and scar assessment in the sigmoid colon.
The Endocuff is feasible, safe, reliable and easy to handle and might have potential to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer

My colleagues and I have definitely found polyps that they didn’t see with the forward view. We feel we were doing an excellent exam with current colonoscopy and that this made it better.
